When I arrived at the house of Earl and Starr I had a phone with no minutes, the clothes on my back and no money. I had no job and I was in the grips of a fatal addiction. What I did have was the belief that God could heal me the way He healed them. That was a great place to start, that was then.
Almost a year later I have been healed of addiction, have a great job, I have moved into my own beautiful home and I’m about to get married. More importantly, I have a relationship with my Creator that has solved all my problems. I am filled with the Holy Spirit and live in Gods love and peace. I was lost but now I am found. Amazing is His grace. How beautiful is His mercy.
Earl and Starr showed me what Gods love looks like. They clothed me when I had none, they fed me when I was hungry, they held me when I cried, they taught me how to pray and put my reliance upon God. They showed me how to walk through trials and come through blameless. They gave me what was freely given them.
Now I am able to share the good news of Jesus Christ because I have seen it, touched it, tasted it, heard it, and received it as a rock I can stand on. Now I have a testimony , but first I had to be shown “the way out”.

My name is Andrea and I have been living in the House of Ruth sober living home since April 2011. Being here, with fellow Christians has helped me in a positive way. For a long time I had shut down and even though I always had people around me I still had no idea – for reasons of fear – of course and self pity – how to open up and share my thoughts and feelings. Starr knows these things and even told me so but was very patient. Also I had counseling and after a couple of weeks into my counseling I started sharing things with Starr. My counselor told me I needed to share but we were in group counseling and I was more comfortable with Starr on some of my issues. I would say all of the places I have recently heard of and how they run their homes and /or programs this house by is the best one. I love how they run their programs because its focused around God. When people find God they are more apt to stay sober and they even stay friends with those they have helped. I even hand out their phone numbers and cards when I come across people whom are in need of a sponsor or some kind of help.
I won’t lie, I don’t like that I put myself in this situation, but am very glad my brother had some Christian friends who were willing to help me, and help me at my own pace. I will forever be thankful and grateful. I now have life long friend! Imagine that!
